Calling all piano lovers! We are delighted to have one of Australia's leading concert pianists, Phillip Shovk, in
He will be performing a diverse program including pieces by Scarlatti, Schumann and Earl Wild's reworking of the music of Gershwin, Tchaikovsky and Bach.
Phillip is considered one of Australia's foremost concert pianists, chamber musicians, accompanists and teacher and he has performed to great acclaim around the world. He has taught at the Rachmaninov Conservatoire in Paris and at the Australian Institute of Music and currently is a Lecturer in both Piano and Accompaniment at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
THE PROGRAM:
The morning recital on Saturday 9 September will include two of Scarlatti's keyboard sonatas - Sonata in C major and Sonata in G Minor - and Schuberts' Sonata in C Minor (one of the three piano sonatas the composer wrote in his last months).
This will be followed by three Schubert lieder transcribed by Liszt (who arranged a large number of Schubert's songs for piano solo) - Die Junge Nonne,
Aufenthalt, and Der Mueller und der Bach.
The concert will conclude with three works by Gershwin, Tchaikovsky and Bach arranged by legendary American pianist Earl Wild - Gershwin 3 Etudes on Gershwin songs, Tchaikovsky's Midst the Noisy Ball and Bach's Sarabande from Partita no.1 in B flat BWV 825.
