Phillip Shovk is an extraordinary character. We take him for granted as he is so easy to get on with and always ready to play, whether it is accompanying a beginner violinist or a solo late Beethoven Sonata that I love and have asked him to perform for a Charmian & Friends concert.

Behind this easy going facade is a serious thinker, master of three languages, chess player, knowledgeable in astronomy, gardening, literature etc.
His home bulges with books. His balcony blossoms with orchids. I generously donate the ashes from my fire for his roses.

He and his brother take their red wine seriously and we regularly have serious tastings.

Not that anything can be too serious in his presence as the sense of humour is always there, waiting to pounce.

I like this photo as it shows the humorous side of this complex artist.
