Increasingly crowded curriculums and finite resources have seen schools cut back on band programs and teachers struggle to find time to include the arts in classroom lessons, resulting in thousands of children leaving primary school with no formal music education.
The issue is currently subject to a parliamentary inquiry in NSW as calls grow for proper accreditation for music teachers and mandatory music classes.
