Prepare to be spellbound as the iconic musical "The Wizard of Oz" makes its grand return to the stage. This enchanting production, known for its enduring charm and mesmerizing storytelling, promises to transport audiences on an unforgettable journey down the yellow brick road.

First premiering in 1902, "The Wizard of Oz" has long held a special place in the hearts of theatre enthusiasts around the world.
Originally adapted from L. Frank Baum's beloved children's book, the production instantly became a sensation, captivating audiences with its whimsical characters, memorable songs, and captivating narrative.

Set against the backdrop of turn-of-the-century America, "The Wizard of Oz" whisks audiences away to the fantastical Land of Oz.
The story follows the captivating journey of Dorothy, a young girl from Kansas who finds herself transported to a magical realm after a tornado carries her away. Accompanied by her loyal canine companion Toto, Dorothy embarks on a quest to find the eponymous Wizard, hoping he can help her return home.

Throughout her adventure, Dorothy encounters a host of endearing characters, each with their unique quirks and aspirations.
From the lovable Scarecrow, yearning for a brain, to the heartfelt Tin Man, searching for a heart, and the courageous Lion, seeking courage, their trials and tribulations resonate with audiences of all ages. Together, they navigate the treacherous landscapes of Oz, facing daunting challenges and forming unbreakable bonds of friendship.

Gosford Musical Society is presenting The Royal Shakespeare Company (1987) version of The Wizard of Oz.
This RSC version is a more faithful adaptation of the film. A more technically complex production, it recreates the dialogue and structure of the MGM classic nearly scene for scene, though it is adapted for live stage performance. The RSC version's musical material also provides more work for the SATB chorus and small vocal ensembles.
