5 Lands Walk
Presented by 5 Lands Walk
Celebrating stories walking together.
The 5 Lands Walk is a unique Australian event, a collaboration between the Aboriginal peoples and the broader communities of Darkinjung Country: the artists, the surf clubs, the schools, the local businesses. It is a gift from over 700 volunteers and sponsors creating a free, day-long celebration where people from diverse walks of life and cultural backgrounds connect through walking together and experiencing Aboriginal culture, live music, art exhibitions, sculptural installations, and more.
The 5 Lands Walk is a physical, spiritual and cultural journey along 10km of spectacular coastline linking five villages on the NSW Central Coast, just an hour and a half from Sydney and Newcastle.
The aim is connecting people to people and people to place – a place where no one is excluded, a place where family, friends and visitors are encouraged to celebrate life and creativity, connect to our deep Aboriginal history, and everything that brings us together today as a vibrant multi-cultural community on Darkinjung Country. In doing so we walk towards a more harmonious and inclusive future on the Central Coast and beyond.
It is held on the Saturday closest to the winter solstice, when the whales, a significant totem of the Darkinjung people, are migrating north. It begins with an opening ceremony the night before – and there are a myriad of reasons to stay another day to enjoy everything that Darkinjung Country has to offer! Food, surf, bushwalks, art exhibitions, cultural tours. Your imagination is the limit.
