Fieldwork: Landscapes West of Sydney On until February 7, 2021 One of Julain Ashtons favourite painting locations was the Hawkesbury region north-west of Sydney, home to the Darug and Darkinjung. Throughout the 1880s and 1890s, several prominent plein-air artists, such as Arthur Streeton, Charles Condor and Sydney Long made painting expeditions to the region, enshrining the Hawkesbury River and surrounding landscapes in colour and light-filled works that celebrated the Australian countryside. Fieldwork: Landscapes West of Sydney is open now.
