Coast Opera Australia

The growth of Coast Opera Australia in 2020/2021 First speaker is Angela Brewer from Coast Opera Australia And, she did sing. A quick cherry blosson song in honour of our sister city relationship with Edogawa. Lovely.

Post 5/11: Council meeting, February 3, 2021. Here is her speech. Dear Mr Persson, and the Central Coast Community, My name is Angela Brewer.

I have been working as a professional Opera Singer here in Australia at the Sydney Opera House and overseas for over 25 years. I trained at Melbourne University under consecutive scholarships, completing an honours degree and thesis on The Physiology Of Singing. I have worked as a conductor and vocal teacher at Melbourne University and the Central Coast Conservatorium of Music.

I would like to introduce you and the community to Coast Opera Australia. I am the Founder and Artistic Director of the Central Coasts first professional regional opera company. We have established a board of 5 well qualified and experienced members that all contribute financially in skills and expertise.

This includes Ms Virginia Henderson AM, Mr Phil Donnelly OAM and our newly appointed Chief Executive Officer, Monique Cardon. Monique is well known for her effective leadership in Not For Profit organisations on the Central Coast. During 2021, she will drive COA and continue to engage the local community in our work.

In just 2 years since establishing, COA have been listed on the Cultural Registry as a Charity and have been recognised by both state and federal governments with DGR status, (Deductible Gift Recipiency). COA has created events in our community to sell-out crowds with standing ovations whilst presenting intimate performances such as Salute to the Anzacs from the grass of the Central Coast Stadium during the Covid19 pandemic: www.facebook.com/coastoperaaustralia/videos/548175949437662 Coast Opera Australia strongly believes that what unites, brings vitality, excitement and innovation to a rapidly developing community is the Arts. We bring creative thinking, innovation and fresh ideas.

So let me please conclude by saying, The Australian Bureau Of Statistics states that over 11 million people currently attend sporting events. 21 million currently attend music performances, galleries and creative events. Supporting Coast Opera Australias future endeavours here in Gosford will benefit our local businesses, community, students and help us continue to create a community who appreciate, respect and understand the value of the Arts whilst enticing new audiences to the Coast for future generations to come.
