Sounds of Musical Theatre


TONY AWARD WINNERS: Moulin Rouge. The Musical is the big winner at the 74th Tony Awards, with ten wins from its 14 nominations. Jagged Little Pill picked up two Tonys, including one for Diablo Cody for best book of a musical.

In play categories, A Christmas Carol leads with five wins, mostly in craft categories, while Matthew Lopezs The Inheritance emerged as something of a surprise with wins for best play, actors Lois Smith and Andrew Burnap as well as for director Stephen Daldry. In the streamed version of the awards, individual musical numbers were performed by Jennifer Holliday, Jennifer Nettles and 2019 Tony winner Ali Stroker. On the Broadways Back special, group performances from Tina The Tina Turner Musical, Jagged Little Pill and Moulin Rouge.
