NEWCASTLE THEATRE COMPANY 2022 SEASON Newcastle Theatre Company has announced a compelling season of shows for 2022, kicking off with the simply beautiful 84 Charing Cross Road. 84 CHARING CROSS ROAD Directed by Jo Cooper When Helene Hanff, a New York script-reader sees an ad in the Saturday Review of Literature for a bookstore in London that does mail order, she writes to see if they can help with her antiquarian taste in books. So begins a twenty year relationship.

The story of this charming correspondence is told in the play 84 Charing Cross Road. Date: 19 Jan 22 Jan 2022 Prices: $25.00 WYRD SISTERS Directed by Lyn Singer Wyrd Sisters is an authorised adaption by Stephen Briggs of Terry Pratchetts book of the same name from the much-loved Discworld series. Discworld is a comic fantasy series set on a flat planet balanced on the backs of four elephants which in turn stand on the back of a giant turtle.

A wonderfully funny and wicked theatrical romp. Date: 11 Feb 26 Feb 2022 Prices: $25.00 to $35.00 BAREFOOT IN THE PARK Directed by Julie Black Barefoot in the Park is a romantic comedy by Neil Simon. Corie and Paul begin married life in a tiny 5th floor apartment in New York.

Paul is a strait-laced attorney while Corie is a free spirit, Adjusting to married life isnt easy as the couple contend with a lack of heating, a leaking roof, several long flights of stairs, the oddball neighbour, the telephone repairer and Cories well-meaning mother. It is a delightfully fun play and a nice tribute to the mastery of Neil Simon. Date: 25 Mar 9 Apr 2022 Prices: $25.00 to $35.00 THE FINE ART OF DECEPTION Directed by Leanne Mueller A new comedy thriller about money, art, and friendship.

Suzanne Faith, a glamorous former model, has a portrait of herself by Francis Bacon worth millions of pounds. A handyman attends her beautiful Chelsea home to do a repair job. Suzannes old friend Margo pays an unexpected visit and refuses to leave.

Her business partner visits with important documents. And a stranger pays a call. Who is deceiving whom? And how far will they go? Date: 6 May 21 May 2022 Prices: $25.00 to $35.00 THE LES DARCY SHOW Directed by Cheryl Sovechles Les Darcy was born in Maitland in 1895 and rose to great acclaim to become world renowned middle-weight boxing champion, hailed as the Maitland Wonder and in search of fame and fortune he travelled to the USA under much controversy surrounding the draft but his US career was not to be, more than 100 years after his death the Les Darcy legend lives on.

Written in the old Theatre hall style not often explored or performed these days, Jack Hibberds play combines naturalistic elements interrupted by songs, dances and and lots of local history. Date: 17 Jun 2 Jul 2022 Prices: $25.00 to $35.00 TONS OF MONEY Directed by Fran Hodgson What would you do to get your hands on tons of money? Aubrey Allington is an inventor, not a very good one but he and wife Louise live the high life on credit. He does stand to inherit tons of money from his deceased brother but how to stop the creditors from taking it all.

Perhaps a fool proof plan to stage his own death and assume the identify of his missing cousin to claim the cash? What could possibly go wrong? Date: 12 Aug 27 Aug 2022 Prices: $25.00 to $35.00 THE REST IS SILENCE Directed by Claire Williams If you could write your own eulogy, what would you say? Dan has a way with words. He is an aspiring actor, paying the bills by delivering eulogies at funerals. Dan is hired by terminally ill Bedford, who wants to control what is said about him when hes dead.

Somehow Dan has to find not just the words, but the truth, to talk about a life not yet ended. A psychological drama dressed in dark humour, written by former ABC journalist and presenter Scott Bevan. Date: 7 Oct 22 Oct 2022 Prices: $25.00 to $35.00 THE WATSONS Directed by Stewart McGowan Kathryn Attwoods 2017 play is based on Jane Austens unfinished 1803 novel of the same name.

The play offers surprises and delights both for those new to Jane Austen and those familiar with her work. Theres some unexpectedly modern twists in this story of a Regency girl looking for love. Date: 11 Nov 26 Nov 2022 Prices: $25.00 to $35.00 Each production will be staged in the Theatre Companys own space at Lambton.
