ADDAMS FAMILY LURCHES TOWARDS OPENING: The cast and crew of Wyong Musical Theatre Companys latest production, The Addams Family, is keeping busy fine-tuning the delivery, gags and songs in this successful Broadway show that starred theatre icon, Nathan Lane. Taking on the role of Gomez is Brett Perkins, seen recently in Stepping Out (D & S Productions) and Me & My Girl (WMTC). Brett told Sounds that hes having so much fun in the part.

The show is based upon The Addams Family characters created by Charles Addams in his single-panel gag cartoons, popular in American newspapers in the 50s and 60s, said Brett. The cartoons depict a ghoulish American family with an affinity for all things macabre. Although numerous film and television adaptations of Addams cartoons exist, the musical is the first stage show based on the characters.

Im actually having a ball in this part its a lot of fun and what makes it even better is my Morticia, played by Emily Price, added Perkins. Their children are delightfully played by Maddie Richards as Wednesday, while Pugsly is played by Sophie Goodwin and Adelaide Thomson. Others in the cast include Danial Martin as Fester, Sally Fanwarr as Grandma Addams, and Lurch Tynan Fuller.

Supporting roles feature Alexander Rowe, Ian Fisher and Diane Ormsby, while 14 people play the Ancestors. The Addams Family won several awards during its Broadway run including a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Set Design, an Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Set Design, and the 2010 Drama League Award for Distinguished Achievement in Musical Theatre Award (presented to Nathan Lane). The show was nominated for two Tony Awards, among other nominations.

The Addams Family will launch its three weekend season on February 25 and continue until March 12.
