The first SPY v SPY music was rehearsed in an underground basement in the Glebe squats in 1980 by founding members vocalist/bassist Craig Bloxom (USA), guitarist Mike Weiley (UK) and drummer Cliff Grigg (AUS).
With platinum albums and gold top ten singles the SPYS gave Australia anthems of a generation, defining and cementing themselves as Oz rock's working class heroes of the 80's.
A formidable live act - the band cut its teeth opening for groups such as Midnight Oil, INXS, Split Enz, the Models and Men At Work as well as international artists U2, David Bowie, Simple Minds and The Clash.
Throughout the 80's the band released landmark recordings Meet Us Inside, Harry's Reasons, AO Mod TV Vers., Xenophobia [Why?] and Trash The Planet to critical acclaim.
After several years apart Michael Weiley (founding guitarist), had been yearning to recreate the magic that was the SPYS and reunited with original drummer and song writing partner Cliff Grigg. Tragically Michael passed away in 2018 leaving Cliff at the helm.
